Sequoia Station – Community Shopping Center,
Redwood City, California – 1994

A 178,000 square foot community shopping center located on a twelve-acre site on the El Camino Real between James, and Jefferson Avenue.

The Caltrain Station for Redwood City adjoins the Center and a 310-car parking garage for the San Mateo Transit Authority was constructed directly beneath a portion of the Center. In addition, ample surface parking for over 500 cars is available for the shoppers.

This was the first redevelopment project in Redwood City and was a major transformation for a site that had deteriorated to a collection of under-valued commercial uses. Sequoia Station is an attractive, economically-viable development, which was fully leased upon its completion and continues to enjoy levels of sales per square foot far exceeding its competitors.

Sequoia Station is anchored by a 62,000 square foot Safeway store, a 25,000 square foot CVS Pharmacy, a 15,000 square foot Old Navy, a 10,000 square foot Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Max’s Café, Johnny Rockets, See’s Candies, and many other resident-serving tenants.

Sequoia Station is truly a superb example of a resident-serving retail community center.
